The film follows Ian Wyndham (Paul Nicholls), a busy, somewhat emotionally closed-off businessman, and his American girlfriend, Samantha (Jennifer Love Hewitt), a talented but struggling singer/songwriter. Ian takes Samantha for granted—he misses her recital, dismisses her dreams, and lets work consume every waking moment.
Unlike Groundhog Day (comedic) or Edge of Tomorrow (action), If Only uses the time-loop premise purely for emotional devastation. Ian doesn’t learn to play piano or fight aliens. He learns to listen . To be present. To say “I love you” like he means it.
Her raw, tearful performance of the song “Love Will Show You Everything” (written specifically for the film) is unforgettable. She moves from wounded to hopeful to heartbroken with breathtaking ease. It’s arguably the best dramatic work of her career.
